Linking Open Data to Accelerate Low-Carbon Development
From 18.01.2012 to 18.01.2012
REEEP Organised
Organised by reegle
Location: Abu Dhabi
Description:
A one-day workshop for decision makers in clean energy organisations
reegle is holding a one-day working on Linking Open Data to Accelerate Low-Carbon Development alongside the 2012 World Future Energy Summit in Abu Dhabi.
Purpose:
Today, the internet makes the storehouse of human knowledge available to anyone, anywhere with internet access via computer or mobile device. Linked Open Data (LOD) is a growing movement for public and open organisations to make their existing data available for use and re-use by others. The challenge now is actually how to sort through this ever-increasing volume of information of varying quality and how to select the most relevant sources.
This workshop seeks to assist public organisations in taking necessary steps to open up their data sets and provide them in a machine-readable and standarised format, and maximize interconnection between knowledge brokers and providers.
Specifically, the workshop aims to
- introduce participants to the basics and concepts behind Linked Open Data
- highlight successful examples (Open Government Data Portals, reegle, OpenEI)
- discuss common concerns, legal issues and licensing questions
- provide concrete insights on “how to do it”
- agree on what steps would be feasible and appropriate to take this agenda forward in the clean development arena
Date:
18th January 2012 (parallel to World Future Energy Summit)
Location: Masdar Institute in Masdar City, Abu Dhabi
Supported by:
Masdar Institute, the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU), the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and the US National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL)
