Description:

The Mission of the Eastern Caribbean States is organizing a Green Growth Investment Forum (GGIF) to take place in Brussels on 6-7 October 2011, aiming to bring together entrepreneurs, experts, policy makers and investors around the theme of green technologies for economic growth, adapted to the context of Small Island Developing States.

The main purpose of the GGIF is to create awareness among potential investors and policy makers in Europe of the specific development realities and challenges facing the small islands of the OECS as well as the opportunities that can make targeted and adapted investments in the area of innovation and clean technologies appealing. This will help to build economic resilience through green enterprise development.

These countries, once characterised by mono-crop economies, have realized that economic development through diversification will inevitably need to be defined by sustainability. This can only be accomplished, inter alia, through respect for the environment, creation of niches that employ clean technologies, the preservation of biodiversity and the building of global private/public partnerships. Further, the economic and ecological constraints of the OECS countries require them to rely on a comprehensive approach for the sustainability of their livelihoods. The GGIF therefore will focus on providing access to relevant information for investors as well as private sector representatives, and rely on an exchange of views and experiences with the eventual goal of promoting a sub-regional strategy on green economic growth with a central role for the private sector.
