Regional Secretariat South Asia
The REEEP SA RS (Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership, South Asia Regional Secretariat) was established in 2005 under the AEI (Asian Energy Institute). It covers the following countries: Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
Since then, the Secretariat has expanded its activities to address the objectives of the REEEP programme. The South Asia Secretariat has implemented 2 programme rounds. 49 proposals were received under fourth programme round(2006-07) and 2 projects were selected. The projects completed under third round are:
- Capacity building for the state regulators and policy makers in mainstreaming of RETs in a reformed electricity sector
- Development of a sustainable financing mechanism for the implementation of energy efficiency street lighting projects in India, State of Madhya Pradesh
The two projects completed under fourth round are:
- Creating a link between energy services and income generation, using innovative financing as a catalyst.
- More Private Pro-poor Small-scale RE/EE Investments in South Asia
72 proposals were received under sixth round (2007-08), and 6 projects were selected. The selected projects cover a diverse range of areas including energy efficiency projects and micro-finance options for renewable energy. These are:
- Financing for Bundled Small-scale Rural RE Ventures in India
- Using Tamil Nadu Municipal EE Program to create & demonstrate a replicable financing model for the use of ESCOs
- Removal of Financial and Institutional Barriers in Mainstreaming the Biomass Gasifier Systems for Thermal Applications in India
- Creating Scalable Financing Models for Sustainable Energy Services via Financial and Micro-finance Institutions
- Technical Support to Energy Efficiency S & L in India
