Planters Energy Network – PEN was initiated as a registered society with it headquarters at Madurai Kamaraj University from 1989 onwards mainly to promote energy conservation and renewable energy in plantation and other industries. In 1996 due to space constraints PEN office was shifted to a nearby premise in Madurai. PEN has done many industrial projects as consultants as well as conducted many energy audits. Under the chairmanship of Prof. M.S.Swaminathan, PEN has organised and conducted successfully three international conferences – one at UPASI, Coonor, another two at IIT Madras. Apart from industrial project PEN also executed R&D projects for Ministry of Non Conventional Energy Sources [presently called as Ministry of New and Renewable Energy], Department of Science and Technology, Ministry of Food Processing Industries, and MPEDA. UNDP selected PENs technology on solar hot air generation as a innovative and recommends for replication in other developing countries. Prof.M.S.Swaminathan, Shri.L,Narayana Chettiar, Prof. Ganam [former V.C. of Bharathidhasan University], Prof.Lakshmanan [former V.C. of Madurai Kamaraj University], Prof.Kurtalalingam are a few names who helped PEN to get international recognition. Dr.C.Palaniappan founder member and CEO of PEN has a long teaching experience including as a faculty at Madurai Kamaraj University. He is also a visiting Professor for a few universities in Italy and Germany. International Energy Agency [IEA] – an international organisation has invited Dr.C.Palaniappan in its Taskforce 33 involving introduction of solar thermal energy. Due to administrative reason PEN office from 2005 has been shifted to a new office at Theni. M/s.Sun Best a proprietorship concern started in 2005 is involved in the commercial applications of PENs successful technologies. PEN is setting a new trend in solar air heating technology adaptation to Indian Industries. |
