Official Abbreviation: IRP
Description: ILZRO RAPS PERU (IRP) is a non-profit organization founded in 1999. IRPī mission is the R&D of RAPS (Remote Area Power Systems). Itīs objective is to contribute for the sustainable development of the remote and isolated villages of Peru. In this way, IRP carries out R&D activities referred to RAPS hybrid systems and to the energy storage batteries as key component of RAPS in partnership with international organizations and laboratories specialized in energy matters. IRP is firmly convinced that energy is not a sectoral issue, but intrinsically related to numerous dimensions of the sustainable development and climate change
Focus and activities:

Remote Area Power Supply (RAPS) – Hybrid Systems offer a unique opportunity for bringing 24-hour electricity to remote villages or areas where it would otherwise be too costly or difficult to install a Conventional power infrastructure. A hybrid RAPS system is ‘next generation’ technology involving a renewable energy source such as the sun, batteries for energy storage, and a diesel generator for back-up power and battery charging. By using each of these components in the most efficient way, cost effectiveness and reliability are maximized. The results are benefits that substantially increase service quality, provide 24 hour basic electricity, and expand opportunities for productive, economic, and educational activities. In addition to these lifestyle and economic benefits, there are also major environmental benefits by the reduction of the emissions of CO2 and many pollutants that are inherent in diesel operation
