Description: PEC a national R&D institution responsible for renewable energy and energy efficiency, established in 1993 by a Presidential resolution to foster the development of renewable energy, rational use of energy and energy conservation in Palestine.

Its mandate includes support formulation and implementation of a national strategy for development of renewable energy and energy efficiency, based on economic development, environment preservation as well as sustainable development of Palestinian society, taking into consideration local requirements, scientific and technological development, as well as consolidation of collaboration opportunities with regional and international energy forums.

PEC recently attached to the Palestinian Energy Authority (PEA) to work under supervision and direct contact of the Palestinian Energy Chairman.
Focus and activities:

The main responsibilities of PEC are: • Efficient utilization of renewable energy resources and raising its contribution in the energy balance sheet. • Raising the energy efficiency for less energy bill and environment protection. • Provision of suitable scientific and technological research facilities that encourage researches and investment in clean and efficient technologies and contribute to quality level enhancement in the market. • Provision of studies and technical consultancy to decision makers, end users and interested bodies in both public and private sectors. • Awareness dissemination, know-how transfer and upgrading of technical capacities for the new and efficient technologies.
