Description: National Agency for Science & Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) is under the umbrella of the Federal Ministry of Science & Technology in Nigeria. It is into
(1) Advance Manufacturing Technology,
(2) Education Intervention such as Primary Science Kits, Junior Secondary Science Kits,
(3) Energy Intervention such as Small Hydro Power, 7.5 MW Solar Panel Production Plant, Wind Energy Project and Pole Mounted Transformers,
(4) Mechatronics,
(5) Nanotechnology
(6) Reverse Engineering

NASENI has the following Institutes:
The Institutes and their mandates are:

1. Scientific Equipment Development Institutes (SEDI) in Enugu and Minna with a mandate to develop and produce scientific equipment and their production systems, and the ceding of these technologies to SMSs.

2. Electronic Development Institute, ELDI, Awka with mandate to develop and produce electronic devices and assemblies, computer technologies and their production systems, and the ceding of the technologies to SMEs.

3. Hydraulic Equipment Devlopment Institute (HEDI), Kano with a mandate to develop and produce hydraulic and pneumatic machinery, materials, fittings and their production systems, and the ceding of the technologies to SMEs

4. Engineering Matrials development Institute (EMDI), Akure with mandate to develop and produce engineering materials and their production systems, and the ceding of the technologies to SMEs.

5. National Engineering Design Development Institute (NEDDI), Nnewi with a mandate to develop engineering design capacity in the country and dissemination of same to SMEs with a view to ensuring that Nigerian made products attain standards specifications and make then globally acceptable.

6. Power Equipment and Electrical Machines Development (PEEMADI), Okene with a mandate of developing and manufacture of machines to manufacture power equipment and electrical machines.

7. Prototype Engineering Development Institute (PEDI), Ilesha with a mandate of developing engineering prototypes and their production systems and teh transfer of these to private sector satellite industries.
Focus and activities:

NASENI MISSION To establish and nurture an appropriate and dynamic Science and Engineering infrastructure base for achieving home initiated and home sustained industrialization through the development of relevant processes, capital goods and equipment necessary for job creation, national economic well being and progress.


The Mandate of NASENI is specifically in the area of capital goods research, production, and reverse engineering with respect to the following six broad areas:



  1. Engineering materials (notably irons, steels, non-ferrous metal and alloys, plastics, glass, ceramics, polymer electronics and nanotechnology);

  2. Industrial and analytic chemical materials including industrial gases;

  3. Scientific equipment and components for education, research and industry; including measuring instruments, electronic components, communication equipment and computers;

  4. Engineering accessories (mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical and electronic);

  5. Power equipment (generation, transmission, distribution, prime movers); and

  6. Mechanical Engineering tools(power tools, hand tools, cutting tools and machine tools).
