About Light for all !!!! In Cameroon an estimated 1.6 million households, or 76% of rural households, are not connected to the electricity grid of AES SONEL. They depend on petrol lamps to meet their light needs. Petrol for light is expensive, rural households spend on average 15% of their monthly revenues on buying petrol. It is unhealthy and it gives poor light! Having access to good light directly improves performance in education, health and economic activities. It supports social and cultural activities and generally enhancing people’s well-being. The mission of Light4all Cameroun is simple: provide light for all Cameroonians by 2020. High quality light that uses renewable energy, is sustainable and at affordable prices for people living in rural areas. We promote solar energy, small-scale hydropower and mechanic forms of energy generation. The key Objectives of Light4all Cameroun are: 1. Respond to people’s basic energy needs by ensuring access to light as an intermediary solution to electrification ; 2. Promote a variety of light products that are affordable and of good quality; 3. Create employment for young man and women in towns and rural areas through establishing viable local enterprise and develop a distribution and sales network and so contribute to fighting poverty. The members of L4AC are : NGOs working to promote poverty alleviation and local development, the environment and renewable energy; consultancy firms working on issues of sustainable development; individual resource persons and public personalities. What we have in common is our motivation that ensuring access to basic and clean energy is life-changing, possible and within reach. Our conviction is that Cameroon on its own can create the favorable conditions to ensure access to light4all. L4AC key values: To accomplish its mission the following fundamental values will be our guide : o To freely share information, knowledge, experience and lessons learned in a transparent way and on the bases of equity; o Favor collaboration across sectors in a multi-stakeholder setting; o Delivering social benefits through economic sustainable mechanisms. |
| Focus and activities: |
Light4all Cameroun will meet its objectives through the implementation and coordination of the following strategies: o Mobilize stakeholders and form partnerships amongst potential actors and bring together financial and human resources in a collaborative network ; o Mobilize investment funds and credit lines (Fund4Light) at national and rural council levels ; o Adapt technology that favors a system where consumers of light pay for the service following the principle of: Fee-for-Service / Rent-to-Own ; o Establish distribution chains that reach out to our target groups = consumers in rural areas unconnected to the grid ; o Seek to establish local production units for the promoted light solutions. |
