Description: Energy and Sustainable Development in Africa (E.S.D.A), a Cameroon-based non-governmental nonprofit association, recognizes that accelerating the transition to efficient and renewable energy would bring enormous economic, social, and environmental benefits to African countries. ESDA works to help the poor and disadvantaged in African countries increase sustainable access to modern energy services and safe drinking water for poverty eradication and to create conditions for a better and sustainable quality of life for all, in these regions, thus contributing to achieve the UN Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). ESDA seeks : - to promote the use of a broad range of renewable energy technologies for on-grid and off-grid applications, including solar thermal, photovoltaic, wind, small hydropower, biomass, microturbines and small geothermal power systems to bring electricity to people in rural disadvantaged and urban poor areas in Africa; - to improve the efficiency of energy use in residential, educational, health care, agricultural, industrial and commercial sectors; - to promote forest conservation and sustainable environmental and resources management; - and to increase sustainable access of population to safe and drinking water. ESDA also seeks to promote greater involvement of women in the design and implementation of clean energy projects with climate change components.
Focus and activities:

Our work focuses on the following areas related to Energy, Environment and Sustainable Development in African countries : • Technical assistance and training in design, installation, operation, and maintenance of renewable energy technologies; • Renewable energy education and promotion; • Energy efficiency and climate change; • Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) of dams, power plants (hydro, oil or gas fired, and renewables) and high-voltage transmission lines; • Energy statistics; • Demand-Side Management (DSM) in the electricity sector; • Greenhouse gas (GHG) inventories and reduction strategies; • Energy for sustainable development programs; • Environment for sustainable development programs; • Gender and energy programs; • Policy and regulation development and impact assessment; • Financial advisory and facilitation services; • Research reports.
