Mission
REEEP’s mission is to facilitate the transformation of energy systems by accelerating the uptake of renewables and energy efficiency technology, as a means of reducing carbon emissions, increasing energy security, and improving access to sustainable energy for the poor worldwide.
REEEP Partners agree that achieving this requires a concerted global effort to create a level playing field for sustainable energy.
Objectives of the Partnership
The over-arching objectives of the Partnership are to:
- Stimulate the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions through a significant increase in the uptake of renewables and energy efficiency
- Contribute to global sustainable development, bringing economic benefits to nations that use energy in a more efficient way and increasing the share of indigenous renewable resources in their energy mix.
- Improve access to reliable and sustainable energy for the poor, contributing to wealth creation and the MDGs
In removing barriers to the long term-transformation of the energy sector, and in creating an attractive investment environment, REEEP projects concentrate on the following topics:
- Policy and regulation: robust policies and favourable, transparent and stable regulatory frameworks to attract investors and to guarantee affordable energy services to consumers
- Innovative finance mechanisms and business models: new forms of financing, risk mitigation and business models to make small-sized renewable and energy efficient projects bankable and economically attractive
REEEP actions are demand-driven and regional. REEEP relies on partners’ voluntary contributions and the value they add through their willingness to share finance, experience and knowledge.
