Martin Hiller

Martin Hiller

Director General

Martin Hiller has over 20 years of experience in policy and environmental campaigning, and in-depth knowledge of climate change and energy issues, with a focus on policy and business engagement. Using his background in biology and ecology, he has developed and implemented numerous campaign strategies in the international policy arena, communicating complex environmental and development issues and co-ordinating and managing cross-cultural teams and projects, and is a sought-after presenter.

Recently Martin finished a long career at the environmental NGO WWF where for the last 8 years he had led campaigns and communications in the global climate and energy programme. Before that, he established the first EU-specific communications operation for any environmental NGO in Brussels, developed WWF’s regional communications operations across Europe, and created the first EU-specific policy campaigns.

Martin’s credo is to use communications to innovate and to create momentum for making solutions happen.

 

Binu Parthan

Deputy Director General – Programme Coordination

Binu Parthan is REEEP’s Deputy Director General and responsible for the co-ordination of REEEP’s project portfolio, which involves more than a hundred high quality projects in more than forty countries, primarily in the developing world.

Prior to joining REEEP, Binu was an executive director of IT Power India, a company he co-founded where he led the energy and environment practice. As a consultant and expert Binu has contributed to over 50 assignments for international agencies such as the World Bank, EU, IEA, UNDP, UNIDO, UN-DESA, UN-ESCAP, UNEP, UNFCCC-CDM Executive Board, WHO, DfID, KfW, PCFPlus NRCan, DANIDA, USAID, MITI, ICEF as well as government, institutional, private and civil society clients in sustainable energy, climate change and related financing and institutional mechanisms. His professional experience covers fourteen countries including developing countries in Asia and Africa.

Binu has also authored or co-authored five books and thirty-six publications apart from forty-five professional reports.

Florian Bauer

Operations & IT Director

Florian Bauer is REEEP's Operations and IT Director, responsible for the overall operational management of the organisation, the product management of reegle (the search engine for renewable energy and energy efficiency) and the management of the IT landscape of REEEP.

Prior to joining REEEP, Florian worked as a Project Manager and Consultant for Siemens Austria where he could gain experience in managing inter-cultural projects and founded a webdesign company in Austria.

Florian obtained a Masters Degree in IT-Management and a Bachelors Degree in Software Engineering from the Vienna University of Technology.

Eva Oberender

Eva Oberender joined REEEP's International Secretariat in January 2012, having previously been the Regional Director of the Southeast Asia and Pacific Regional Secretariat. Prior to that, she was the Policy Manager at REEEP focusing on renewable energy and energy efficiency policy within the Pacific region.

Eva has a background in Economics from her undergraduate studies in Prague, Czech Republic, and later gained her Masters degree in Environmental Policy in London, England. In Australia, Eva worked for the former Business Council for Sustainable Energy and for the Federal Department of Environment on energy efficiency regulation before joining REEEP.

Katrin Harvey

Operations Manager and Assistant to the Director General

Katrin Harvey works for REEEP as the Operations Manager and Assistant to the Director General. In this capacity, she is in charge of all matters pertaining to REEEP’s governance and she is responsible for managing the daily business of the DG’s office.

Before REEEP, Katrin worked for a company where she first managed all the staff relations for travel groups in Europe and later she was on the organizing committee for an international youth sports festival in Vienna. During her studies Katrin was employed by the University of Vienna as a tutor for the English department.

Katrin holds a Master’s degree in English and American Studies from the University of Vienna and is currently researching her thesis for a second Master in International Development Studies.

Elisabeth Widmer

Finance Manager

Elisabeth Widmer joined REEEP in 2011. As REEEP Finance Manager she is responsible for accounting, donor reports, bank matters and all financial aspects of REEEP projects.

Prior to joining REEEP, Elisabeth worked for a company that focused on media technology where she also acted as the finance manager. Before that, she held similar positions in other businesses, including the mechanical engineering industry, the pharma industry and IT.

Elisabeth holds a Master's degree from the Vienna University of Applied Sciences in Management. She is proud mother of two little boys.

Pearse Cullinane

Programme Manager

Before joining REEEP, Pearse Cullinane founded an energy consultancy performing energy audits and identifying energy saving opportunities for residential and small businesses.

Previous to this he worked at Texas Instruments for 13 years where he worked in various equipment engineering roles supporting semiconductor research and manufacturing.

He has a postgraduate Masters Degree in Renewable Energy Systems Technology from Loughborough University in the UK and is a Certified Energy Manager (CEM) with the Association of Energy Engineers.

Thomas Thorsch Krader

Programme Manager

Thomas Thorsch Krader has led energy and renewables projects in both corporate and development environments for firms including BP, McGraw-Hill/Standard & Poor's and SNV. Prior to joining REEEP, he worked in South Asia, managing an international team implementing programs in pico/micro hydro, biogas, improved cook stoves, sustainable energy finance and emissions reduction trading (carbon).

Tom studied economics, policy and management at University of Chicago, University of California, Berkeley and Columbia University. He was born and raised in New York City.

Knowledge Management - reegle

Denise Recheis has contributed regular blogs for reegle for over two years and has eventually joined the team as a full-time staff member. Before settling in Vienna, Denise has lived in several countries including England, France and Thailand.

She has always had an interest in international development and has discovered renewable energy technologies as a great means to accelerate progress. She has studied engineering with a focus on renewables in Vienna and now primarily works on the reegle website. Her tasks involve building knowledge networks - thesauri - that link energy and climate concepts from the reegle database with the Linked Open Data cloud.

Marketing Director

Camilla Chalmers is a Marketing Consultant working on the  REEEP Marketing and Sponsorship since February 2006. She also works closely with the reegle team on the promotion and future strategy of the brand.

Camilla spent 11 years working within account management at various international advertising agencies including Saatchi, Ogilvy & Mather and Lowe Worldwide, guiding the marketing strategies and advertising outputs of global companies.

Camilla has a Masters Degree from Oxford University.

James Smith is REEEP's Community Facilitator, with responsibility for online communications with Partner Organisations and Friends of REEEP. He also facilitates some face-to-face meetings. He has worked as a freelance consultant for REEEP since 2004.

Formerly the Chief Executive of the School for Social Entrepreneurs in the UK, and co-founder of Unltd: the Foundation for Social Entrepreneurs, he also provides strategic consultancy to social sector organisations via Monkey Mosaic Ltd.

He has a Law degree from Cambridge University.

Dr. Marianne Moscoso-Osterkorn

Marianne Moscoso-Osterkorn

Former Director General

Dr. Moscoso-Osterkorn was Director General of the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership (REEEP) from its establishment as a separate organisation in 2004 until 30 November 2011.  She is a member of the Board of the Gold Standard Foundation; from 2006 -2009 she was member of the Advisory Council of the European Technology Platform for the Electricity Networks of the Future (European Commission); in 2009 she became a member of the World Economic Forum’s Global Agenda Council on Sustainable Energy.

Prior to joining REEEP, Marianne served as Head of the Executive Office of Austrian Power Trading, a subsidiary of Verbund, Austria’s largest utility, where she was Head of Organizational Development and Divisional Manager for International Relations. In this role she was active in the development of the EU renewable directive and the European renewable certificate system (RECS). In 2003 she was elected President of RECS International and was honored as one of the key women in European energy in 2003.

Marianne obtained a Ph.D. in business administration at the University of Economics in Vienna and a Masters of Arts in industrial psychology from Western Michigan University.

Li Junfeng

Mr. Li Junfeng is currently serving as the Deputy Director of Energy Research Institute, National Development and Reform Commission. He also holds the professional and academic positions as a Professor and the Chair of the Academic Committee of ERI, and the General Secretary of Chinese Renewable Industrial Association, Vice-Chairman of Global Wind Energy Council and Vice-Chairman of REN 21. He graduated from Shandong Mining Institute in 1982. Mr. Li is the focal point of REEEP's program for the Region of East Asia. He has been engaged in project development for GEF and World Bank, UNDP and other program for renewable energy development in China. In recent years, he has also been involved in Climate Change issues, especially technology transfer, CDM and carbon trade issues, and has been heading the development of the first CDM project in China. He chaired the Sustainable Energy Task Force of the Chinese High Technology 863 Programme under the tenth national five-year plan, and was a the member of the Hydrogen Task Force of National High Technology 973 Programme. He facilitated the implementation of the national high technology programme for Wind and Solar PV within the tenth five-year plan. He is also the chief author for the development of Chinese Renewable Energy Law. His published writings include: Issues and Options of Green House Gas Emission and Control in China, Renewable Technology Assessment in China, Renewable Energy Planning and Development Strategy, Potential Analysis of Carbon Trade in China, Wind 12 in China, Explanation of Chinese Renewable Energy Law, and Market Analysis of Solar PV Technology in China, China Wind Power Report 2007, China Solar PV Report 2007, China Renewable Energy Industry Development Report 2007, China Wind Power Report 2008.

Wenqian (Megan) Tang works for CREIA as the Project Manager of REEEP East Asia Regional Secretariat, mainly responsible for REEEP projects in the East Asia region including managing project bids, following up ongoing projects and assisting experts for project evaluation etc.

She graduated from South China University of Technology in June, 2008 with a Masters degree in Material Processing Engineering.

Mark Lambrides

Mark Lambrides profile photo

Mark Lambrides has seventeen years of experience as a leader in sustainable energy project promotion and development in Latin America and the Caribbean. As the Division Chief for Energy and Climate Change in the Department of Sustainable Development at the Organization of American States (OAS), he provides support to senior government officials and other key stakeholders in Latin American and Caribbean on energy sector and related climate change matters. Key areas of assistance include: the development of innovative energy programs and projects; support for the formulation of clean energy policies and regulations; the facilitation of project financing; the delivery of capacity building initiatives; and the brokering of relationships between project developers, electric utilities, and other host country stakeholders. The Energy and Climate Change Division coordinates numerous multilateral energy projects throughout the region, including operating as the Regional Secretariat for Latin America and the Caribbean for the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership (REEEP). Mr. Lambrides received his M.A. in International Relations from The Johns Hopkins University - The Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), and his B.A. in Political Science and Spanish from Kalamazoo College.

Juan-Cruz Monticelli

Manager, Latin America and Caribbean

Juan-Cruz Monticelli runs the day-to-day operations of the REEEP Regional Secretariat for Latin America and the Caribbean region. He has worked with the Office for Sustainable Development and Environment of the Organization of American States since 1999. His experience includes work with OAS Member States geared to expand the use of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies, research on legal and institutional aspects of integrated water resources management and regional planning in Latin America and the Caribbean and the formulation of innovative mechanisms for biodiversity conservation in the Americas. He prepared a compendium of participatory environmental legislations and institutions in Latin America, the Caribbean Region, and Africa for the World Bank's Environmentally and Socially Sustainable Development and International Law Group. He has a Law degree from the Universidad Católica Argentina and a Master of Laws degree from George Washington University.

Dr Thembakazi Mali

Thembakazi Mali Profile Picture

Thembakazi Mali holds a Ph. D in Chemistry and a Graduate Diploma in Engineering in Environmental Engineering from the University of the Witwatersrand. Her career spans over a decade in the chemical and petrochemical field. She has worked as a research chemist at NCP R&D, the research unit of the now defunct Sentrachem group; as process technologist at the CSIR, South Africa’s Science Council and electrochemist at Eskom’s (South Africa’s electricity utility) then Technology, Research and Innovation unit. She has also worked for Sasol Solvents and Sasol Technology, which are some of the division of Sasol, the CTL petrochemical company, holding different portfolios as a research scientist and manager. 

Presently, she is the Senior Manager: Clean Energy Solutions (Renewable Energy and Alternative Energy) at the South African National Energy Institute (SANERI), which is a state-funded energy research organisation that focuses on public interest energy R&D and seeks to assist national government in meeting the national goals of economic development (and by implication national competitiveness) and the improvement of quality of life of all citizens. Her responsibilities within the thematic area are that of strategic planning of thematic area research linked to the introduction of cleaner, safer fuels including but not limited to renewable energy, hydrogen economy and hybrid energy supply and ensures that the strategic objectives of government that relate to energy security of supply are adhered to, in the nature of research work undertaken. She is the Director of REEEP's Southern African Regional Secretariat, which SANERI was appointed to host in 2008.

Amanda Luxande

Amanda Luxande is Manager of REEEP's Southern Africa Regional Secretariat, responsible for day-to-day operations.

She holds degrees in Zoology and Ecology (BSc, UCT), Policy and Development Studies (BSocSci, UKZN) and Environment and Development (MSc, University of Manchester). Between theoretical studies she has been engaging with key global environmental issues through her work at the South African National Biodiversity Institute in the field of conservation planning, where she was involved with the formulation of the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan. She has also worked for the South African Department of Water Affairs and Forestry performing reserve determinations and engaging in matters related to aquatic resource protection. Through her work for the Department of Agriculture was involved with the roll-out of capacity building and skills development programmes for small-scale farmers across the Western Cape. As REEEP’s Regional Manager she is currently involved in facilitating the implementation of renewable energy and energy efficiency systems in Southern Africa, as part of mitigating against the impacts of climate change.

Jason Schäffler

Jason Schäffler has experience in techno-economic and policy analysis in the energy, electricity and particularly the renewable energy arenas.

He holds a M. Sc. AppSc in Energy and Development from the University of Cape Town and an honours degree in Physics at Wits university.  The emphasis of this early and continuing research concerned the environmental and economic benefits of distributed electricity generation and particularly in wind energy.  Much of the work over the past years has been at a South African national and provincial public policy level and across a broader range of renewable energy technologies.  Work for private, public and donor agencies spans from project development, strategy preparation and scenario modelling to project and programme design and evaluation.  Geographically he also has experience in such assignments regionally including in Lesotho, Swaziland, Botswana and Kenya.  He currently serves as the technical coordinator for REEEP’s Southern African secretariat managing project bids, ensuring delivery of ongoing projects and assisting experts in project evaluation and showcasing.  He is a longstanding member of Council of the Sustainable Energy Society of Southern Africa and as of 2011 a fellow of the REEEP academy of learning.

Sonya Fernandes

Sonya Fernandes profile picture

Sonya Fernandes holds a Masters in Environmental Science from the Institute of Science, India with an earlier background in Biochemistry and Microbiology. In her past work she conducted workshops on Industrial, occupational & environmental safety, fire safety and disaster management for several eminent companies. At Bombay First, an offshoot of Bombay Chambers of Commerce and Industry, she worked with the Central and State Governments, municipal corporations and other government and non-government agencies in negotiating and consolidating plans for city transformation, catalysing policy initiatives and conducting research activities. She worked towards mobilising public support to further city development and improved access to basic amenities. 

Presently as Regional Programme Manager with REEEP South Asia she manages the secretariat along with the team. Her work includes literature review, database management and field work, providing regional information for governing board reports, inputs to SERN (Sustainable Energy Regulation Network) Publications and research on sustainable initiatives. She also oversees the monitoring and evaluation  of REEEP-funded projects in the region.

Siddha Mahajan

Siddha Mahajan has a Master of Science in Natural Resources Management from TERI University, and a Bachelor of Science in Botany from University of Delhi. Her Masters dissertation is based on study of renewable energy policies and their impact on market development for photovoltaics in South Asian Countries. Currently, she is working in Renewable Energy Technology Applications Area in TERI as a Research Associate. She has worked with ACC Ltd. on a research project about Co-processing in cement plants to derive alternate fuels and raw material value from the waste of various industries.

Her interests include renewable energy policy studies and photovoltaics.

Amit Kumar

Mr Amit Kumar is a Mechanical Engineer with specialization in thermal engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee. He has been working on the development and diffusion of cleaner and renewable energy resources based technological solutions in India for 25 years. His experience ranges from policy and programme formulation, through project implementation, to the design and development of renewable-energy technologies, as well as manufacturing of solar energy devices. In TERI, currently he is responsible for research activities in the fields of renewable energy, energy efficiency, sustainable building design, and resource efficient process technology applications. Besides coordinating part of a multi-country GEF-supported study to assess solar and wind resources in developing countries; he is also actively involved in projects related to development of Sri Lanka’s policy framework for renewable resource based electricity generation and development of integrated energy management master plan for Bhutan. At the field level, he managed the design, construction and commissioning of one of the largest solar ponds at Bhuj in western India from 1987 to 1996, and Asia’s first solar powered cold storage in early eighties. He is also actively involved in activities related to knowledge management and sharing.

Amit provides invaluable advice on research activities in the field of renewable energy and energy efficiency and inputs on government policies that will affect the deployment of RE and EE projects in the region.

Nic Jacobson

Regional Director

Nicholas (Nic) Jacobson is the Regional Director of the Southeast Asia and Pacific Secretariat of the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership (REEEP) where he works on facilitating investment in clean energy projects and development of appropriate policy and regulatory environments in the region. In his REEEP capacity, Nic also provides advice to policy-makers, financiers, project developers and companies in the region on the incorporation of renewable energy and energy efficiency into national market-based programs.

Before joining REEEP, Nic worked with RenewablesSA, the Office of the Commissioner for Renewable Energy in the Government of South Australia, providing technical, project management and policy advice. He has more than 10-years of experience in the clean energy sector with roles in consultancy and project development.

Nic holds Bachelor of Engineering, Civil, from Monash University in Melbourne. He has also undertaken post-graduate studies through Murdoch University in Perth being awarded a Master of Science in Renewable Energy.

The Regional Secretariat of REEEP is hosted by the Clean Energy Council in Melbourne, the peak clean energy industry body, where Nic also holds the position of Director - International. In this role, Nic leads the International Directorate, an expert group which works on market development and opening export opportunities for Australian clean energy businesses.

Kate Greer

Director of Communications and Business Development

Kate Greer is the Director of Communications and Business Development the for REEEP’s Southeast Asia and Pacific Secretariat. Kate promotes the work of REEEP to Australian and international audiences and, in doing so, works to generate new clean energy business opportunities in the Southeast Asia and Pacific regions.

Kate’s background is primarily in environmental education and community development in government and non-government organisations and she has Bachelors in architecture and education.

Kate joined REEEP in January 2012.
