Mexico EE stakeholders sign MoU to develop action plan

REEEP’s Energy Efficiency Coalition has brought together the major energy efficiency stakeholders in Mexico to sign a joint MoU committing the organisations to the development of a joint action plan. The objective is to implement energy efficiency in buildings at state and municipal level across Mexico.
The parties at the signing ceremony held at the Industrial Club of Mexico City represent they key organisations necessary to make this sort integrated energy efficiency initiative a success, and could form a model for similar efforts in other Latin American nations. The signatories:
The National Commission for Energy Efficiency (CONUEE) is a sub-entity of the Secretary of Energy which develops energy efficiency standards and regulations, implements awareness campaigns, and fosters research and development to improve energy efficiency and sustainable energy use in every sector of the Mexican economy.
The National Network of State Energy Commission (RENACE) is an organization which integrates representatives from most state governments, whose main objective is to promote and encourage energy efficiency and use of renewable energy sources in the public, private and social sectors at the regional and local level in Mexico.
RENACE contributes in building a sustainable energy policy at a national and local level, through the development of projects and programs related to energy sustainability and conservation. RENACE Also promotes the creation of information systems and information networks in most states.
The Association for Energy Efficiency in Buildings (AEAEE) was founded in 2003 to work in association with manufacturers, builders, consultants, and national & international organisms from public & private sector - AEAEE is focused on research, promotion and educational programs for “energy efficiency in building” and help Mexico to reduce CO2 emissions.
A regular cycle of meetings and conference calls amongst all partners has been agreed, and a first draft of the action plan will be discussed at the first of those.
