Friends of REEEP: unanimous in call for CDM reform, and three quarters agree on the need for an Africa-specific CDM
Vienna, 04.12.2008
A cross section of Friends of REEEP – including academics, business people and other individuals with an active interest in renewable and energy efficiency from 21 different countries -- responded to our online survey on the future development of CDM.
Virtually all of them (97%) agreed that there is a need to reform CDM. When asked to tick off various reasons why, two major concerns emerged ahead of all others: a) the sense that the current CDM structure is only suitable for large projects (67% of respondents), and b) the need to establish additionality more clearly (63%).
Interestingly, 77% of respondents also agreed that a special CDM is required for Africa. Respondents believe that this mechanism should offer easier procedures / lower administration costs, and a specific fund that is linked to CDM projects.
