Norway becomes a REEEP Partner

Delhi, 06.02.2009 - REEEP International Secretariat

Today the government of Norway officially became a Partner of REEEP in a signing ceremony at the Delhi Summit on Sustainable Development, represented by the Honourable Erik Solheim, Norway’s Minister of the Environment and International Development.

Hon. Eric Solheim signs Norway as REEEP partner

A group of prominent guests including Dr. R. K. Pachauri, Director General of TERI India, Chairman of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, and Member of the REEEP Governing Board and Mr. Creon Butler, Deputy High Commissioner at the British High Commission witnessed the occasion.

Climate change, renewable energy and energy efficiency are main priorities in Norwegian development assistance which will reach 1 % of GNI this year. Since 2006, the Norwegian government has been REEEP’s second largest donor after the UK. Officially becoming a Partner of REEEP underlines this mindset and cements an already strong relationship.

The signing can also be seen as a call to other governments to benefit from the advantages of becoming a Partner of an independent, flexible and fast-acting organization such as REEEP. For developed nations, REEEP membership is a means of expanding their own environmental and development priorities to the international arena.  Dr.Pachauri, Director General TERI and member of the REEEP governing board stated that “of all the initiatives that were taken during the 2002 World Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg, REEEP has been one of the most successful”.
