The Economist quotes Guruswamy in highlighting biochar
Boulder, Colorado, 27.08.2009 - REEEP International Secretariat
The August 27 issue of The Economist magazine led its science and technology section with a 3-page report resulting from The 2009 North American Biochar Conference.
The event which was held from August 9-12 in Boulder, Colorado, was opened by the US Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack. “Biochar” (a renaming of charcoal), is coming to be viewed as a viable tool for addressing global warming in that it presents a method of extracting CO2 from the atmosphere and sequestering it. In the process, it fertilizes the soil wherever it is buried. The Economist report quotes Professor Lakshman Guruswamy, who is a long-time supporter of REEEP. The story itself can be read here.
