Honours pile up for RETScreen
Ottawa, 14.06.2010 - REEEP International Secretariat
The honours keep piling up for RETScreen, the free decision support software that is helping 253,000 users in 222 countries evaluate the cost and impact of renewable energy and energy efficiency projects.
On 14th June, RETScreen Version 4 was awarded the Public Service Award of Excellence for Innovation by Canada's Clerk of the Privy Council, the head of that country's 250,000 civil service employees. Shortly afterwards, it won a Department Achievement Award at Natural Resources Canada. And on June 3rd, RETScreen was also chosen National Winner for Canada at the Energy Globe 2010 Awards announced at the UN World Environment Day conference in Rwanda.
Yet RETScreen Director Greg Leng feels that the product "has barely scratched the surface of its potential. We expect to have a million users in another ten years." He acknowledges that all the accolades just generate more enthusiasm from his team. "The impact of the software is big and so much fun," he says.
"REEEP is proud to have supported RETScreen in several different projects over the years, including its translation into many languages," notes Marianne Osterkorn. "RETScreen is quite literally capacity-building in software form. We're already looking forward to Version 5!"
