230 stakeholders quizzed ahead of DIREC
Vienna, 03.08.2010 - REEEP International Secretariat
Over the past three months, more than 230 key energy stakeholders from around the world have been polled by REEEP to capture their thoughts on the current state of clean energy development. The results of the study will be shared in an early session at the Delhi International Renewable Energy Conference (DIREC), which runs from 27-29 October 2010. The document will be released publically at the same time.
REEEP was asked by the Indian Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) to conduct the survey in advance of DIREC. The first stage of the consultation was identifying and actually interviewing stakeholders. REEEP’s network of Regional Secretariats quizzed notable renewable energy companies, energy utilities, financial institutions, government, regulators, and NGOs during the months of May, June and July.
The questionnaire had a heavy emphasis on clean energy and its potential role in poverty alleviation. Among other items, it asked stakeholders
- what they see as the most important renewable energy resource
- what they see as the best technology for widening access to energy
- to identify the key promoting factors and key barriers to clean energy development, and
- what types of capacity building measures are needed
Some 9,000 participants are expected at DIREC, and the related exhibition expects some 600 exhibitors from 40 countries. The event brings together governments, industry, investors, scientists and other key decision-makers for a comprehensive look at renewable energy and its role in widening access to energy.
With a mix of plenary and specialised session, DIREC 2010 will enable its participants to acquire a deeper understanding of
- the link from Copenhagen to Cancun via DIREC
- the policy efforts needed to encourage and enable a major renewables scale up
- what is needed to mobilize finance for renewable energy innovation and deployment
- the benefits of collaboration, synergies, and knowledge-sharing at the international level to scale up renewables.
During the conference, the reegle website will also host the official event blog.
