Project leaders rate REEEP highly
Vienna, 06.08.2010 - REEEP International Secretariat
As part of REEEP’s continuing series of external evaluations of its own performance, in late 2009 the Partnership joined a group of nine social change networks in working with iScale and Keystone to conduct a comparative survey of their constituents – in REEEP’s case, some 43 of its project implementers.
The resulting study is entitled Feedback Survey for Transnational Social Change Networks. The nine networks covered in the survey each involve actors from multiple countries; they all pursue goals within the broad social and environmental justice field; and all share the premise that by adopting a networked structure they will generate greater benefits. In addition to REEEP, the networks surveyed also included Countdown 2010, the Poverty and Economic Policy (PEP) Research Network, Gender at Work and CIVICUS, among others.
The networks were measured against a common set of criteria, using a standardised online survey tool that sought constituent feedback on:
- Structure and function of the network
- Quality of relationships with the network’s bodies
- Network vibrancy
- Level of synergy within the network
- Value added for constituents
- Network’s impact on constituents’ work and its general field
Overall, in four major areas, REEEP’s constituents rate the value they get from the partnership very highly compared to other networks. REEEP is often rated as the best or second best performing network in the group. More specifically:
Respondents give REEEP a rating of 17 out of 20 for how well the International Secretariat (IS) meets their needs. This places REEEP within the top 25% networks in the group. Quotes included things like “we always get a helpful and timely response from the REEEP Secretariat when we have queries”.
The overall value of relationships established as a result of participating in REEEP is rated with 14 out of 20. This places REEEP as the best performing network in the group. “I was very satisfied with the cooperation and wish other institutions would have such a professional organization”.
The level of synergy (sharing of common interests, similar concerns and participating in the network’s strategy) within the REEEP network is rated 14 out of 20. This places REEEP in the solid middlefield, but constituents do see some room for improvement in terms of network size and diversity.
REEEP is the second best performing network in the group in terms of how participation in the network has lived up to constituent expectations. Respondents gave a rating of 16 out of 20, and in terms of general impact on constituents’ work, respondents also give REEEP a score of 16 out of 20, which puts REEEP at the top of all networks surveyed.
This feedback survey forms part of REEEP’s efforts to improve the quality, openness and transparency of its programme management through feedback and independent evaluation. REEEP is already taking steps to address areas for improvement and to consolidate areas of strength.
