Call for Expressions of Interest to author CDKN policy briefings
London, 17.06.2011 - James Smith
The Climate and Development Knowledge Network(CDKN) has launched a rapid tendering process for eight policy briefs on success stories in Climate Compatible Development.
Designing and delivering climate compatible development is no easy task. There are trade-offs and difficult investment decisions to be made. Decision-makers are interested in lessons from elsewhere. The Climate and Development Knowledge Network (CDKN) aims to make such knowledge more widely accessible to developing country decision-makers, across government, civil society and the private sector.
CDKN is seeking to contract either one or two organisations – depending on the quality of the bids received – to prepare eight policy briefs that will delve ‘Behind the Success Stories in Climate Compatible Development.’ These case studies will cover examples such as path-blazing legislation to integrate climate change into overall development planning, sustainable biofuel production, large-scale afforestation and reforestation programmes, and government subsidies for renewable energy development.
Policies such as these have big economic and climate change objectives. How successful have they been in generating revenue, raising incomes, building resilience to climate change, and delivering low carbon development pathways? How have stakeholders been consulted, and how have they reacted? What consequences, intended and unintended, have occurred as a result?
The winning bidder(s) will have a track record in producing incisive, persuasive policy briefs for developing country audiences. They will have their own staff expertise or access to a broader network of expertise to tell some of the big stories in climate compatible development from a fresh perspective.
The tender is for primarily desk-based studies that will pull together lessons learned from reputable sources and present them in a compelling way - this is not a tender for a major piece of original research.
The policy briefs are required on a rolling time scale before the end of 2011, with the first due in September 2011. We hope to appoint the contractor by 20 July 2011 and as such this will be a rapid tendering process.
Organisations that are interested in tendering should express their interest formally by emailing the CDKN Procurement team (cdknetwork.procurement@uk.pwc.com) with the following information:
- Subject line: Expression of interest: CDKN Policy Briefings
- Organisation/company name.
- A sentence confirming your interest in bidding for the work.
- The name of any partner organisations you anticipate that you will work with.
- A contact name(s), email address and telephone number for the most appropriate person(s) to send further information to regarding bidding.
The deadline for submission of Expressions of Interest is 22 June 2011.
