New Team at South East Asia & Pacific Regional Secretariat
Melbourne, 09.06.2008
REEEP's South East Asia and Pacific Regional Secretariat has a new team.
Eva Oberender has been appointed to the role of the Regional Manager and will be joined by Maaike Gobel who will provide support in policy and project management.
Eva has worked with the Secretariat for 18 months as the policy manager. Maaike has previously worked as a project manager for the Australian Government and as a climate change policy analyst for the Government of the Netherlands.
The new team will continue to be supported by Amy Kean who will become a Regional Advisor to the Secretariat assisting with the strategic direction of the Secretariat’s activities.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank Amy Kean for all her work over the past two years in building the REEEP Southeast Asia and Pacific Regional Secretariat. Amy has developed strong partnerships with key regional players and secured long-term funding for the operation of the Secretariat as well as for project implementation to ensure the right market conditions are set for the uptake of renewable and efficient energy sources.
Eva and Maaike will continue to facilitate networks to increase the outreach and scale of the renewable and energy efficiency markets. This is achieved through information-sharing, advocacy and up-to-date information. In this region, REEEP has formed strategic partnerships with APEC, ADB, ASEAN, Pacific Energy Working Group and the Singapore Government.
One billion people in the Asia-Pacific region do not have access to modern energy services for basic cooking, heating and lighting. REEEP has actively promoted the role of clean renewable and efficient energy in achieving sustainable economic development. In large developing cities, particularly in Asia, sustainable energy is vital to reducing air pollution, energy security and long term operating costs. In the Pacific, where only 10% of the region has access to energy, access to clean energy is vital for health, education, economic independence and development. Access to clean energy has now become a priority of regional aid organisations.
REEEP is achieving its goals in the South East Asia and Pacific region through the generous ongoing support from the Australian and New Zealand Governments and nabCapital.
