Conference and Exhibition
There will be strong emphasis on accelerating hydro development in parts of the world where the potential and needs for extra capacity are greatest. There will also be important discussions on managing, maintaining and upgrading existing hydro assets, on social and environmental aspects, on innovations in technology, and on climate change studies and implications for water infrastructure. One highlight will be a special session focusing on lessons learnt from the process of reaching financial closure at Bujagali in Uganda. Uganda’s Minister of Energy and Mineral Development will outline the benefits of this scheme for his country, and other speakers and panellists will represent the main sponsors of the project and the lending agencies. The debate will broaden to major hydro schemes in other parts of the world.
Speakers and delegations will be present from all countries with major hydro development programmes under way and planned. More than 1000 participants representing at least 75 countries are expected to participate.
