Energy efficiency in buildings: the untapped reservoir for tackling climate change
From 10.12.2009 to 10.12.2009
REEEP Organised
Organised by REEEP Energy Efficiency Coalition
Location: Copenhagen
Description:
A REEEP Energy Efficiency Coalition side event alongside COP15 -
It is a radical yet simple suggestion. The IEA has estimated that if 25 energy efficiency policy recommendations were fully implemented globally, they would save 8.2Gt of CO2 emissions in 2030, which corresponds to some 20% of all energy sector emissions projected for business-as-usual scenario for the same year. Agreement to fully implement these measures alone would bring global emissions back to 2005 levels, despite a doubling in economic activity and an assumed 22% increase in global population.
On Thursday, 10th December, the REEEP Energy Efficiency Coalition will hold a cocktail hour discussion on how building energy efficiency can contribute to climate change mitigation. The Crown Plaza Copenhagen Towers, a brand-new hotel which sets an example in energy efficiency, will host the event. The range of distinguished speakers will include:
Paul Waide, Director, Navigant Consulting, who will open with a look at how buildings can be a fast track to a climate accord
Robert Allender, Managing Director of Energy Resources Management, Hong Kong who will discuss Asian leadership in improving the building sector
Prof. Huang Ming, CEO, China-Himin Solar Energy Group who will highlight the combination of solar building with energy efficiency in Solar Valley, China
The event is open to all interested participants and takes place at:
Crowne Plaza Copenhagen Towers
Oerestads Boulevard 114-118
2300 Copenhagen C
Thursday, 10th December
Time: 18.00 – 20.00
Geneva Room, 2nd floor of Hotel Conference Center
Before and during COP15, the Energy Efficiency Coalition will circulate an expert position paper on the same topic entitled "Building agreement at Copenhagen: could a focus on buildings be the fast track to a global climate accord?"
