PFAN, ECREEE and CTCN Launch Call for Proposals for Women-led Sustainable Energy Enterprises in West Africa

ECREEE, CTCN and PFAN have launched a call for proposals for women-led sustainable energy enterprises in West-Africa, as part of the CTCN/ECOWAS Project on Mainstreaming Gender for a Climate-Resilient Energy System in West Africa. Women-led businesses employing clean energy solutions to facilitate women's economic empowerment in the ECOWAS countries and seeking investments of up to USD 50 million are invited to apply here by the 20th of November, 2017.

The project “Climate Change, Clean Energy and Urban Water” has entered its implementation phase, as was announced during an event at the Department of Environmental Affairs in Pretoria, South Africa last Friday. The 2.5-year project is funded by the EU, with UNIDO as Implementation Partner and REEEP as Execution Partner. The initiative promotes the market-based deployment of energy efficiency measures and clean energy technologies and services in municipal waterworks, commencing with pilot demonstration projects in South Africa.

Private Financing Advisory Network Relaunched under REEEP and UNIDO Hosting

On the 10th of May, 2017, the Private Financing Advisory Network (PFAN) was officially relaunched under its new hosting arrangement with the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) in cooperation with REEEP in Vienna, Austria. Under this arrangement, PFAN’s activities will be scaled up by a factor of two to five by the year 2020.

During this event, the Private Financing Advisory Network (PFAN), an initiative which thus far has raised over US$ 1.3 billion in financing for climate and clean energy businesses in low- and middle-income countries, will present its new hosting structure under the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and REEEP.

At KPC's Austrian Climate Change Workshop, held last week in Vienna, I spoke on a panel about ‘Fostering Low-Carbon Development and Climate Resilience’. The Green Climate Fund and the European Investment Bank, among others, were represented on that panel, and given the nature of these two players, the presentations and most of the discussion revolved around large amounts of money.
