At the 22nd Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), a panel of experts discussed how innovative financing solutions and closer stakeholder engagement can help developing countries reach and exceed the targets set in their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the 2015 Paris Agreement, and how to ensure small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) play a meaningful and central role in this effort. The panel included high-level representatives from the public and private sector.

SE4All Workshop on the Water-Energy-Food Nexus

In September 2015, world leaders formally adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, including 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and 169 associated targets which are aimed at stimulating action over the next 15 years in areas of critical importance for a more equitable and sustainable world. The strong linkages between the SDGs underlines the notion that progress on each goal will be critical for progress on others, with increasing understanding for the implementation of the SDGs through an integrated framework that demands close collaboration at all levels of governance. As a result, the water-energy-food nexus has emerged as a crucial policy and governance approach for integrated planning and implementation of the SDGs.

Experts Meeting and Workshop on Harmonised Technical Guidelines for PV Systems in the Pacific Islands

The Sustainable Energy Industry Association of the Pacific Islands (SEIAPI), the Itnernational REnewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and the Pacific Power Association (PPA), will jointly organise an expert meeting and workshop in order to introduce two Technology Guidelines for Solar Photovoltaic Systems in the Pacific region.

The Role of Networks in Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaption

The risk from natural hazards is projected to further increase in many regions due to a growing exposure of human activities often combined with increased vulnerability and the projected increase in frequency and intensity of hazards due to effects of global warming. For the development and implementation of (more) effective risk reduction policies, a close collaboration and knowledge exchange between decision makers, the scientific community, the private sector and civil society is needed.

Renewable energy is making rapid inroads in developing countries, with investment reaching US$112 billion in 2012, representing 46 percent of total global investment in renewable energy. Yet even with this growth in activity, investors, developers, and other practitioners still operate in an information vacuum when it comes to easily finding practical examples of financing and implementation of renewable energy projects.
