Press Release: Local Project Launch of ‘Climate Change, Clean Energy and Urban Water’ Project

The project “Climate Change, Clean Energy and Urban Water” has entered its implementation phase, as was announced during an event at the Department of Environmental Affairs in Pretoria, South Africa last Friday. The 2.5-year project is funded by the EU, with UNIDO as Implementation Partner and REEEP as Execution Partner. The initiative promotes the market-based deployment of energy efficiency measures and clean energy technologies and services in municipal waterworks, commencing with pilot demonstration projects in South Africa.

A new briefing by the Climate Finance Advisory Service (CFAS) highlights the key climate finance issues on the agenda of the Conference of the Parties (COP) and the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (CMP) at their meeting in Lima Peru in December 2014. The CFAS Guide: The Status of Climate Finance at COP20, Lima is authored by David Eckstein and Alpha Kaloga (Germanwatch), Alix Mazounie (RAC-France), Sven Harmeling (CARE), Raju Chhetri (independent consultant) and Henriette Imelda (IESR), with support from Sönke Kreft (Germanwatch).

COP-20 Lima

From December 1 to 12, 2014, Lima will host the Twentieth Conference of the Parties of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 20). Peru will receive about 15,000 people, which represent 194 countries and stakeholders from international organizations, civil society, private sector and several mass media, as well as presidents and ministers.

The Role of Networks in Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaption

The risk from natural hazards is projected to further increase in many regions due to a growing exposure of human activities often combined with increased vulnerability and the projected increase in frequency and intensity of hazards due to effects of global warming. For the development and implementation of (more) effective risk reduction policies, a close collaboration and knowledge exchange between decision makers, the scientific community, the private sector and civil society is needed.
