LEDS in Action: COP20 Side Event

The LEDS in Action side event will highlight low emission development leadership in Africa, Asia and Latin America and the Caribbean and activities of the LEDS Global Partnership (LEDS GP) regional platforms and working groups on finance, benefits assessment, sub-national programs, energy, AFOLU (agriculture, forestry and land use), and transport that are enabling peer learning and technical cooperation across countries and international institutions.

The Italy-Africa Initiative, in its specific energy-environment sector, plans to relaunch relations with African countries through an analysis of the prospects for investment in power generation, development of transmission networks and renewable energy - all decisive factors in the path towards a sustainable development of the continent.

Forum "Partnerships to scale up investment for inclusive and sustainable industrial development"

The United Nations Industrial Development Ogranization (UNIDO) hopes to extend the impact and larger outreach of ISID goals through strengthening the partnership dialogue between UNIDO, recipient Governments, DFIs, other development agencies, private sector, and donors to scale up ISID investment in developing countries.

Shedding Light on Energy Innovation

A REEEP-supported initiative is bringing solar-powered reading lamps to rural Peru, providing an affordable, clean alternative to polluting, dangerous, and expensive forms of lighting such as diesel lamps. The key to the project—called “Digital Diesel: Pay As You Go Financing for Solar Energy in Rural Peru”—is a cellphone app that allows users to buy the lamp via small weekly payments.

Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) awards PowerMundo $100,000 as a winner of the IDEAS Energy Innovation Contest

A press release from the REEEP-funded, Colorado-based international social enterprise PowerMundo has just announced that they have been selected as one of 10 winners of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) 2013 IDEAS Energy Innovation Contest, an initiative to promote innovative solutions to energy problems, benefit communities, create jobs and expand access to renewable energy in Latin America and the Caribbean. The IDB chose PowerMundo’s proposal entitled “Digital Diesel: Pay As You Go Financing for Solar Energy in Rural Peru” as one of the top 10 proposals in a field of 563 applicants. PowerMundo will receive $100,000, technical and business development support, as well as access to experts, policy makers, institutions and potential financial partners to implement and scale up its ideas.

Documentary highlights REEEP efficiency project in Indonesian tempe industry

If you’re interested in energy efficiency, improving health and livelihoods, and environmental protection, it’s time to talk about tempe. What is tempe? It is a firm soy-based product similar to tofu and the most consumed protein source in Indonesia. It contains antioxidants, and has numerous health benefits, including reducing cholesterol and preventing hypertension. Tempe in Indonesia is a €700 million per year industry, yet the majority of producers are micro, small and medium sized enterprises (MSMEs), most of which still operate under sub-standard, unhygienic conditions and use mainly firewood as fuel.

United States

Through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the Government of the United States provides funding to the Private Financing Advisory Network (PFAN), a programme hosted by UNIDO and REEEP.

Previously, the U.S. Department of State, through the Asia-Pacific Partnership on Clean Development and Climate, funded the creation of a Compendium of U.S. Best Practices, a guidebook of best practices in renewable energy from the state and city level in the United States.
