Press Release: REEEP and PFAN Side Event at COP22: Experts stress crucial importance of financing for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises in ensuring success of the Paris Agreement

The Panel at the SME financing for NDCs side event

At the 22nd Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), a panel of experts discussed how innovative financing solutions and closer stakeholder engagement can help developing countries reach and exceed the targets set in their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the 2015 Paris Agreement, and how to ensure small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) play a meaningful and central role in this effort. The panel included high-level representatives from the public and private sector.

The evidence and knowledge we develop is only valuable if turned into action. We follow a multi-tiered approach to sharing knowledge, beginning with direct collaboration with close partners who can put evidence to good use by developing policy and shaping investment pipelines.

Tough language and a clear message from the IPCC

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) presented on Sunday (2 November) in Copenhagen its Assessment Synthesis Report. The conclusions of the report result from the week-long discussion between scientists and governments involved. According to the authors, while the world is on a perilous path toward irreversibly damaging the global environment, we can still avoid the most serious impacts through immediate action. Adapting to climate change is important but it is mitigation that is central to achieve sustainable actions.

CTI PFAN Bangalore event helps entrepreneurs prepare to present their ideas

REEEP’s partner CTI PFAN organized a two-day event for entrepreneurs they support in South Asia to improve entrepreneurs’ ability to present their business models to investors. Nine entrepreneurs took part in the event, all of whom are seeking investment into clean energy – renewable energy or energy efficiency technology – as a service provider themselves, or for improving the efficiency of their own production processes.

"Green Growth in Practice: Lessons from Country Experiences" report launched

There has been a significant demand for – and yet lack of - real stories, analysis, and knowledge-sharing from on-the-ground efforts in green growth planning and development from around the world. Therefore, a team of experts supported by the European Climate Foundation, the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), and the Climate and Development Knowledge Network (CDKN) came together to produce the report, “Green Growth in Practice: Lessons from Country Experiences.”

Urban Transport Data Exchange

The transport sector is the fastest growing source of greenhouse gas emissions - transport-related GHG emissions are projected to increase by 57% (2005-2030) and by over 80% by 2050. Working together, REEEP, the Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP) and the World Wide Web Foundation intend to harness the power of Linked Open Data  to improve decision-making and planning to ensure low carbon, sustainable transport systems.
