Brazilian smallholding farmers see the full value of their products

At first glance, creating livelihoods and strengthening food security while preventing deforestation and fostering sustainable land use may seem irreconcilable goals. Yet Brazilian institute Ecoengenho has managed to do both through its Aroeira project, which empowers smallholding farmers in northeastern Brazil to actively engage in the value chain of their products from harvest to retail. Their product of choice? Pink pepper.

Two new reports: world invested $244 billion on renewables in 2012, with shift to developing countries

The sister publications, REN21’s Renewables 2013 Global Status Report and Frankfurt School – UNEP/BNEF’s Global Trends in Renewable Energy Investment 2013 were launched together on 12 June, 2013.  Together they see $244 billion invested in renewables worldwide during the course of 2012 - the second highest ever - with a clear shift towards developing countries.

REEEP-funded roadmap promotes RE in buildings in Changjiang River region

A newly released roadmap document outlines a strategy for integrating renewable energy technologies into buildings in China’s Changjiang River (CJR) basin.  The region covers an area of 1.8 million km² with a population of over 500 million. It includes China's major industrial centres and generates 40% of the country's GDP. The region is also growing quickly, with 500 million m2 of new construction added each year.

Compendium of U.S. Best Practices

This Compendium of Best Practices is the result of extensive outreach, data gathering, and analysis conducted to identify leading state and local-level best practices in energy efficiency and renewable energy in the United States. The report describes more than 20 practices and includes examples of their effective implementation in states or cities.
