The Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI) recently announced that the REEEP partner eThekwini Water & Sanitation, serving the Durban metropolitan area in South Africa, has been named the 2014 winner of the Stockholm Industry Water Award, for its transformative and inclusive approach to providing water and sanitation services.
Water, energy and food systems are inextricably interconnected. Water and energy are needed to produce food; water is needed for almost all forms of power generation; energy is required to treat and transport water. The relationships and trade-offs within this triangle of resources are known collectively as the water-energy-food nexus.
World Water Week is hosted and organised by the Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI) and takes place in Stockholm. The World Water Week has been the annual focal point for the globe's water issues since 1991.
REEEP is funded in part by the Austrian Federal Ministry for Sustainability and Tourism. This Ministry integrates responsibility for key areas that are essential to creating and ensuring quality of life and a livable future.
Through the Ministry for Digital, Business and Enterprise, the Govenment of Austria also provides funding for the Private Financing Advisory Network (PFAN), a programme hosted by UNIDO and REEEP.
Through the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the Government of Australia supports PFAN, a programme hosted by UNIDO and REEEP.
Previously, the Government of Australia funded most REEEP in the Pacific region, first through the Greenhouse Office, then the Department of the Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts, and later via the Department of Resources, Energy and Tourism.
