Energy Access

Enabling access to modern, affordable and clean energy for people in all areas of the world

Energy Access

Energy is fundamental to generating prosperity. Yet worldwide nearly 1.2 billion people do not have access to modern electricity. Many people throughout the world are not connected to formal energy grids. We are working to build a portfolio that capitalizes on innovative ways to increase energy access for the world’s rural and urban populations to fight energy poverty and improve livelihoods.

In September 2011, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon launched Sustainable Energy for All (SE4All), a global initiative with three core objectives:

  1. providing universal access to modern energy services;
  2. doubling the global rate of improvement in energy efficiency, and
  3. doubling the share of renewable energy in the global energy mix.

REEEP supports the aims of SE4All through most of our work (including direct contributions as part of the Water-Energy-Food Nexus High Impact Opportunity), and nowhere more categorically than the Energy Access Focal Area.

Energy is the golden thread that connects economic growth, increased social equity, and an environment that allows the world to thrive.

- UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon

REEEP has been an significant player in driving energy transformations for over ten years, and an indispensable ally in the global effort to bring sustainable energy to all. SE4All looks forward to a sustained and fruitful partnership and cooperation in addressing this important global challenge.
