The Power Africa: Beyond the Grid Fund for Zambia (BGFZ), funded by Sweden and managed by the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership (REEEP), was launched in 2016 with the aim to expand access to clean, reliable, affordable off-grid energy in rural and peri-urban areas in Zambia. The programme supports four private companies and works closely with the government in its efforts to build a thriving market for off-grid energy services, and is on-track to connect 1.6 million Zambians by 2021.
SMG is one of the four companies supported under Beyond the Grid for Zambia (BGFZ) with the aim to making clean, modern and reliable energy affordable to one million Zambians. SMG is dedicated to building micro-grids to deliver 24/7 AC power to 130,000 Zambians in the next few years through the Fund.
Recently, Standard Microgrid (SMG) and Zambian Rural Electrification Authority (REA) have been named finalists for the prestigious Concordia Summit P3 Impact Awards.
