Dr. Thembakazi Mali is Senior Manager, Clean Energy Solutions (Renewable Energy and Alternative Energy) at SANEDI. Her responsibilities include strategic planning of research into the introduction of cleaner and safer energy sources including renewable energy, hydrogen and hybrid energy supply. She is the Director of REEEP's Southern African Regional Secretariat, which has been hosted with SANEDI and its predecessor since 2008.
Her career spans over a decade in the chemical and petrochemical field. She has worked as a research chemist at NCP R&D, the research unit of the now defunct Sentrachem group; as process technologist at the CSIR, South Africa’s Science Council and electrochemist at Eskom’s (South Africa’s electricity utility) then Technology, Research and Innovation unit. She has also worked for Sasol Solvents and Sasol Technology.
She holds a Ph. D in Chemistry and a Graduate Diploma in Engineering in Environmental Engineering from the University of the Witwatersrand.
